High School Earthquake Fellows

A four-month research program at the Caltech Seismological Laboratory for local 10th and 11th grade students. Fellows build a seismometer, install it at home or school and analyze its data across Saturday sessions in May and June, a roughly four-week summer research block and end-of-summer Saturdays, about 130 hours in all. Applicants need three years of high school math, and fellows are loaned a computer and keep their seismometer.
